Is named after B K S Iyengar. It is a form of yoga that focuses on the precision of alignment and posture in poses (asanas), with the intention of creating balance in the body and mind. In this type of class poses will be held for longer and there will be great attention to detail in all aspects of the pose. This form of yoga utilises many props such as blocks, props, straps, cushions and bolsters to achieve optimum alignment in a pose and to gently allow the body to progress with support. B K S Iyengar devised this method taking full account of the fact that modern life and western society have many daily practices that make the body less open to some of the yoga asanas at the beginning of an individual’s yoga practice. The focus on correct alignment and the anatomical planes of the postures coupled with the use of props allows a participant’s body to expand and open into the postures gently and with care and can results in greater progression. The practice of Iyengar yoga methodically and systematically produces an awareness of the body that enhances the students strength, flexibility and stability. Sthira (steadiness) and Sukha (ease) which are the cornerstone of any yoga practice are at the forefront of these classes. Some of the benefits of our Iyengar classes are as follows:
